About Us
The child is at the centre of our thinking at Barrie Montessori School. We believe, as did Dr. Maria Montessori, that education should awaken each child’s natural desire to learn. Currently, we offer programming for toddler, preschool, JK/SK and elementary grades as well as private tutoring programs.
Our learning environments offer authentic Montessori education combined with Ontario Ministry curriculum. In our classroom communities, children learn by doing, younger and older children develop natural mentoring relationships, and children enjoy strong student-teacher relationships.
We have 2 campuses located in the City of Barrie and serve the educational needs of children ages 18 months up to Grade 8.
Our classrooms are fully equipped with Montessori materials which stimulate logical thought and the discovery of abstract ideas. Classroom work is both self-directed and guided so that all children have the liberty to study how and what interests them within limits established by loving, practiced adults. All activities, projects, and assignments are designed to recognize and address different learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses. Materials are available for repetition and mastery, and children are encouraged to share their experiences with others in a social setting.
Both of our campuses offer large, natural grass, fenced playground areas that allow for safe outdoor play and activities. Students are invited to explore and delight in the natural world while developing control of their bodies and refining gross motor skills. Our Bayfield campus also hosts a 2000 square feet gymnasium that can be utilized for indoor play including sports, yoga and dancing.
“When interested, a child becomes self-motivated. Self-motivation leads to self-discipline. When self-disciplined, a child engages in a process of mastery and develops his or her potential.”
- Maria Montessori
At Barrie Montessori & Elementary Private School, we recognize and
honour that the teacher and student relationship is a significant part
of the learning process. As a result, BMS is committed to hiring
teachers of excellence. We employ teachers and teaching assistants who
are fully trained in the areas of child development, early education and
Ministry of Education curriculum.
Today’s families often have both parents committed to their careers. At the same time, their children are a priority. Raising them, protecting them, and providing them with the best education possible is what is important. Care, at times, must fall on others when the parent is unavailable. At Barrie Montessori, we understand that for some, a workday begins early in the morning and ends in the late evening. For this reason, we provide childcare beginning at 8:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Whether you make your way to school in the early morning or pick up your child in the late evening, you will feel a sense of joy and satisfaction knowing that your child is having fun, they are safe, and they are with people who you know and trust.
