ART

"The human hand, so delicate and so complicated, not only allows the mind to reveal itself but it enables the whole being to enter into special relationships with its environment..." - Maria Montessori, The Discovery of the Child

Our Arts and Crafts Program is designed to inspire. We aim to stimulate and develop creative thinking and self-expression within each student from CASA to Upper Elementary. It is our goal to enhance the artistic nature within each child, to give opportunities to learn new skills and to develop art knowledge and appreciation. Our Arts program gives students the opportunity to express themselves, concentrate and immerse themselves in their process and their work. Children of all levels will be taught about the 7 elements of art as they are exposed to many different mediums. They will learn how to use simple tools, and to find confidence in their achievements. We will work with colour exploration, ceramics, textiles, drawing, painting, paper maché, patterning, sculpture, and pastel art to name a few. Art will be cross-curricular, incorporating math, language, history, nature, and science. Through specific art instruction, and independent experimentation students develop a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance, and pride in their work. Naturally, students discover an appreciation for art and realize their potential for creativity and gain confidence in themselves. Visual art activities in the Art Studio will also help build community as we work together on group projects throughout the year.

YOGA & MINDFULNESS

“Yoga takes you into the present moment, the only place where life exists.” – Patañjali

Yoga is a way of life. For children, it is a healthy, focused, movement-based, breathing-inspired, body honouring form of physical exercise, relaxation, focus, mindfulness, and state of well-being. It reflects an awareness and belief system that is conveyed by movements to the depth of every cell in the body. Foundational beliefs from the Ontario Early Years and Think, Feel, Act documents support the concepts that children are capable and curious, that their early experiences can affect them for a lifetime and that children’s relationships with others affect learning. A sense of belonging, well-being, engagement and expression are critical for healthy development. What children think and feel affects how they behave. The connection with yoga is clear. From the musical warm-ups to savasana, the yoga program’s intentions include being fun, interactive, self-awareness building, stress relieving, empathy building, focus strengthening, affirming, and child-friendly!

MUSIC

“Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” - Plato

Our Music Program is designed to encourage a student’s natural creativity and imagination. Students naturally discover their love for music and movement and are given the platform to express themselves both musically and creatively. The main objective is to capture the student’s potential to learn through music and to encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity, and individuality. Students learn about rhythm, singing, dancing and composers. They are exposed to a variety of musical styles which include children’s music, classical, folk, jazz, cultural, and current popular pieces. Elementary Students (Grades 1-8 ) receive formal lessons in music theory and are introduced to a variety of percussion instruments. We also offer private guitar lessons.
