I’m so happy you have found your way to our very first blog post.
Whether you’re a current family or just beginning to explore Montessori education, I’m so glad you’re here.
As the Principal and Founder of Barrie Montessori & Elementary Private School, I’d love to take a moment to introduce myself and share the story of how our school came to be. I’m also excited to share more about who we are, what we do, and most importantly–why we do it.
How Montessori Found Me
Like many parents, my journey into education started when I was looking for the right preschool for my child. I was simply seeking a nurturing, thoughtful environment where they could grow. What I didn’t expect was to fall completely in love–with a philosophy, a classroom, and a way of seeing children that would change my entire career path.
That was my first experience with Montessori education. And once I saw it in action, I knew I had found something truly special.
A Change of Path and a New Beginning
I’m a graduate of Queen’s University, and originally, I imagined a different career for myself. But after that moment of discovery, I followed my heart to the Toronto Montessori Institute, where I trained in Montessori pedagogy. I then spent several years working in Montessori schools throughout York Region, learning from incredible mentors and deepening my passion for child-centered education.
Eventually, the opportunity to start my own school came and I knew exactly where it had to be: Barrie.
Barrie is my hometown. I grew up here, walked these sidewalks, played in these parks, skied these hills and now have the great joy of raising a school community in the very place that raised me.
It is where I wanted to give back by creating something meaningful; a place where children could thrive in an environment built on respect, independence, and a love of learning.
What We Believe
At Barrie Montessori & Elementary Private School, we offer authentic Montessori programming in both childcare and elementary grades JK – Grade 8. Our classrooms are calm, purposeful spaces where children are supported as individuals and encouraged to grow at their own pace.
Our staff and many of our families are local to the Barrie area, which gives our school a true sense of community. Every child who walks through our doors is met with warmth, curiosity, and a belief in their potential.

Our school motto is more than just a slogan—it’s a promise:

In our classrooms, learning is joyful, hands-on, and alive with curiosity. Our educators are passionate, observant, and deeply intentional. We use every moment as a teaching moment, helping children grow not only academically, but socially, emotionally, and morally.
Whether your child is just beginning their educational journey in our childcare program or continuing into our elementary grades, they are met with warmth, respect, and a learning environment designed just for them.
What to Expect From This Blog
Through this blog, I will be sharing insights into the Montessori method, tips for parents, glimpses into our daily life at school, school updates and stories that celebrate the incredible growth we see in our students every day.
My hope is that this space becomes a resource for families, a window into our classrooms, and a reflection of the vibrant, nurturing community we are building together.
Whether you are a current parent, an educator, or just Montessori-curious, I hope this space gives you a deeper understanding of what we do and why it matters.
